In 1999, he founded GALERIE DEMESURE in L’ISLE SUR LA SORGUE, France, where he began offering for sale some of his discoveries—always rare and little-known objects that he had acquired and loved to share their stories with clients like him, sensitive to the beauty of something unique.
In 2004, he created a sublime property in Marrakech, which became his rallying point with a minimum of 6 months of travel per year. In 2012, he built an irresistibly charming property in Bali, transporting old houses he had bought himself on the island of Java and reassembling them on-site.
Today, he lives between Marrakech and Bali; In Morocco, he leads our team of creators (e-marketers, designers, graphic artists, web designers). In France, his team manages GALERIE DEMESURE where everything you find on this site is stored and exhibited. He is nicknamed “the eye” in France because his acute sense of discovering exceptional objects is recognized.
Now 65 years old, the same passion drives him, and we, his assistants who have been with him for many years, have convinced him to create this website www.theexceptionalfurniture and to promote it internationally.

Jean-Yves has a deep passion for “art brut,” also known as outsider art, which refers to artworks created by self-taught artists who exist outside of traditional artistic norms. This form of expression is raw, uninhibited, and often produced by individuals who have no formal training. Jean-Yves is drawn to the authenticity and emotion behind these works, and he proudly offers a selection of pieces created by anonymous artists. These unique creations embody the pure, unfiltered spirit of art, capturing the essence of human creativity in its most unrefined form.

We are a dedicated team united under the guidance of our mentor, Jean Yves SEVESTRE. Jean Yves’s journey began at the age of 23, when he co-invented a groundbreaking piece of digital radiology equipment. His innovation brought him substantial royalties over the course of a decade, but by the age of 35, he chose to step away from the corporate world. At that time, he also resigned from his role as president of the company he had transformed into a global leader in dental radiology. This decision came after facing irreconcilable differences with an American pension fund that had helped finance his business.
Motivated by these challenges and a desire for change, Jean Yves embarked on a journey to explore new horizons and immerse himself in diverse cultures around the world. Although not driven by material luxury, he developed a deep passion for art and beauty. During his travels, he began collecting rare and unique decorative objects, tribal art, and exceptional furniture, drawn to the craftsmanship and cultural significance of each piece. His experiences and vision continue to inspire and shape our team’s approach, as we remain committed to seeking out the finest art and exceptional creations from around the globe.
